The Illinois Legislative Black Caucus is an active voice pursuing legislation, initiatives, policies and programs to address critical issues that will improve the quality of life for the citizens they were elected to serve.

Forged from a Rich History of Black Excellence

The ILBC has represented the interest of Illinois citizens for over a half century. Through the efforts of the Caucus and Foundation, tremendous strides have been made in areas of housing, health and welfare, education, employment and minority business enterprise. 

Who Are We?

Formally established in 1967, the primary mission of the ILBC is to assure that the interests of African American citizens are given equitable representation in the General Assembly and that legislative action is directed to address those interests.

For 56 years, the ILBC has represented the interest of Illinois citizens. Through the efforts of the Caucus, tremendous strides have been made in areas of housing, health and welfare, education, employment and minority business enterprise. Today 12 black senators and 22 representatives compromise the Illinois Black Legislative Caucus.

ILBCF Fellowships

For the last 2 years, the ILBCF and Black caucus members have teamed up to bring students from around Illinois to Springfield for a day to learn about state government.

Black Soiree

Every year, the ILBCF has its annual Black History Month Soiree. At the event, we honor African American leaders from the past who have made an impact on our community.

Scholarship Golf Outing & Reception

Every year since 2002, the ILBCF has given over $60,000 in scholarships. Last year, we were able to increase our commitment to providing over 100k in scholarships, due to the generosity of our funders we will be able to keep the commitment of providing over 100k in scholarships for 2023 as well!!!
