CHICAGO –State Representative La Shawn K. Ford (D-Chicago) hosts the 4th year anniversary naming of

Mandela Road and Mandela birthday celebration on July 18th at 10:30 a.m at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Cicero Avenue (Mandela Road) in Chicago. Commander Betts, 15th Police District, will also join the celebration in a effort to raise peace in Austin, and talk about CPD's new crime fighting technology. In addition to the celebration, Rep Ford will unveil Chicago's only Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's statue on Chicago Avenue and Cicero Avenue.

SPRINGFIELD, IL. – On Friday, a measure to ensure the responsible management of the Illinois Common School Fund and provide more funding for local schools from state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, D-Chicago, passed the General Assembly. The measure will ensure that tax dollars fund school systems in Illinois, rather than counting on funds from the lottery.

“Decades ago, when our state originally implemented the lottery, the purpose was to provide extra revenue for children in our Illinois schools, but for years, lottery money went into the school fund and then out the other end,” said Ford. “Because of the financial state that we find ourselves in, the passage of this bill could not have come at a better time. It will plug an education funding leak, bringing hundreds of millions of dollars to schools all across Illinois.”
