Conyears-Ervin Votes to End Rauner’s Budget Crisis; Overrides His Veto

July 7, 2017

CHICAGO – State Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin, D-Chicago, issued the following statement after voting to override Gov. Rauner’s veto on the balanced budget and end the governor’s budget crisis:

“Earlier in the week, the General Assembly came together in a bi-partisan fashion to send the governor an honest, bi-partisan, balanced budget that not only protects essential services for the state’s most vulnerable citizens, but also cuts nearly $3 billion in state bureaucracy. We have also passed legislation that addressed his calls for reforms. Despite the General Assembly meeting 90 percent of his demands, the governor vetoed the balanced budget, and demonstrated that he is more concerned about playing political games than the well-being of the people of Illinois.

“The people of our state have suffered enough because of the governor’s budget crisis, and overriding his veto was the necessary and right thing to do.”
